(ECNS) -- Haikou City, South China's Hainan Province, will host Super Bouts -- an international boxing tournament -- on Feb. 2, organizers said on Tuesday.
The event will be of the highest level boxing events on the Chinese mainland with golden belt boxers from the World Boxing Organization, World Boxing Council, World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation competing here during Spring Festival, Chinese New Year.
The event, to be held three years in a row, will be organized by Mission Hills Group and promoted by Shanghai-based SECA and Top Rank, an American sports promotion company. SECA and Top Rank have worked to promote boxing events in many Chinese cities.
Bob Arum, CEO of Top Rank, announced that WBC and WBO light-welterweight champion Jose Ramirez will fight against former titlist Viktor Postol at the event.
Tenniel Chu, vice chairman of Mission Hills Group, said the professional boxing competition can boost the tourism charm of Haikou.
It's expected Super Bouts would become a new addition to Spring Festival celebrations and attract more visitors to the island, said Chu.
